EasyJet flight forced into emergency landing as woman 'launches carrier bag attack

Three people were on board causing disruption on the Easyjet flight which meant the Turkey to Liverpool flight was delayed by more than two and a half hours late

A woman who was reportedly hitting a man over the head with a carrier bag onboard an Easyjet flight has forced the pilot to make an emergency landing.

Three passengers were acting disruptively on the flight from Dalaman, Turkey, to Liverpool's John Lennon airport, so the pilot decided to bring the aircraft down in Venice. The plane, which took off on Wednesday night at 9.55 p.m., was met by Italian police when it landed. Officers in Italy escorted the passengers out of the country. Neil Houlker, a passenger from Nelson in Lancashire, was travelling on the aircraft with his wife and child. "There were two and three people missing when we boarded the plane in Dalaman," he claimed. The flight was scheduled to leave early.

"This woman got on the plane and yelled, 'Where's row 31?' It was evident she had been drinking. Two members of the cabin crew exchanged glances as she shouted, agreeing that the woman shouldn't have been let on the aircraft. The cabin crew had to frequently visit them because they were in the back of the aircraft while we were at the front. There was only general commotion, swearing, and drinking.

A man had to move due to the disturbance, and there was a vacant seat behind us. The pilot had to make an announcement stating that there would be no disruptions.

Neil apparently asked a member of the cabin crew when he noticed the jet starting to drop.

The woman began yelling, and a male who had been travelling with her was attempting to claim innocence by stating that it was all her and not him. I don't know what was in the carrier bag that she used to smack him over the head with. They also lost a bottle of vodka, albeit there wasn't much left. There were young passengers on the aircraft who shouldn't have had to witness that.

"EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY3406 from Dalaman to Liverpool yesterday was diverted to Venice where the aircraft was met by police due to three passengers acting disruptively onboard," the spokeswoman continued.

"After the passengers were off, the flight continued to Liverpool. EasyJet's flight attendants are trained to assess and weigh all circumstances and take swift, appropriate action to guarantee that the safety of the aircraft and other passengers is never jeopardised. Even though these occurrences are uncommon, we treat them seriously and do not put up with disruptive behaviour onboard. EasyJet always puts passengers' and crew members' safety and wellbeing first.
